MUSIC MINISTRY AT COMMUNITY CHRISTIAN
The mission of the music ministry at Community Christian is to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ through music and song. With a philosophy of ministering to the congregation rather than performing for the congregation, the musicians of our program enrich our weekly worship services based on the motto “We Sing to Worship”. We encourage excellence, teamwork, commitment, creative development and spiritual growth. The music ministry at Community Christian focuses on providing opportunities for all musicians who desire to be a part of the music ministry regardless of experience, age, talent or instrument. The only requirement is a desire to serve the Lord faithfully and joyfully.
HEARTS OF JOY CHILDREN’S CHOIR
The purpose of our Hearts of Joy Children’s Choir is to encourage worship through singing by providing a musical foundation to appreciate traditional hymns of our faith as well as contemporary worship music. Rehearsals include vocal exercises, instruction on music notation, preparation of music for Sunday services, discussion of text and meaning of the music. Hearts of Joy generally sings on the second Sunday of the month at the second service only. Rehearsals begin at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesdays commencing after Labor Day and conclude with Music Sunday in May. Christine Buttram, Director.
HARMONY IN SPIRIT
This newly named and forming inspirational team will begin in the fall of 2010 with plans to lead the music at the 8:30 a.m. contemporary service one Sunday a month. As the group is established and grows, the plan is to increase performance time until all Sundays are included. Guitarist, drummers, and adult vocalists are needed and will feature today’s contemporary Christian music. Christine Buttram, Director.
THE RINGING DISCIPLES
The Ringing Disciples Handbell choir performs the third Sunday of the month, September through May, at the second service. The Ringing Disciples perform with five octaves of handbells in various styles of music and regularly collaborate with the Chancel Choir for special occasion selections at Christmas, Easter and Music Sunday. Rehearsals are Wednesday evenings at 5:45 p.m. Judy Wingate, Director.
CHANCEL CHOIR
The Chancel Choir enjoys a rich legacy at Community Christian. Around 25 volunteer members rehearse to provide a selective repertoire of religious music in various musical styles, both a cappella and accompanied by various instruments. From baroque to bluegrass, the Chancel Choir proclaims the Christian message! The group is composed of high school youth and adults and rehearses Wednesday evenings at 7:00 p.m. Christine Buttram, Director.
SPECIAL SUMMER MUSIC
From Memorial Day through Labor Day, the choirs take a little time off, so summertime provides opportunities for soloists or small groups to prepare special musical selections for Sunday worship. A sign-up sheet for the special summer music is posted on the music department bulletin board. Select a date, provide the title of the selection and notate if an accompanist is needed.
SECULAR MUSICAL OPPORTUNITIES
“Short and Sweet Show”
The “Short” part is selections from your favorite Broadway musicals and the “Sweet” part is the delicious desserts and beverages enjoyed by the audience during the show. The talented members and friends of Community Christian are regular performers in lake area theater productions and area choirs making this show chocked full of great music, comedy and singing talent. It was such a hit the first year that people demanded that it become an annual event. The show is held one Friday and Saturday night in June and proceeds currently go to the new robe fund.
The “CCC Showcase”
The CCC Showcase began as a fundraiser for the new robe fund and received rave reviews for its diverse and talented cast. This all church talent show has become an annual event held in early spring. From classical guitar to beatnik poetry, Community Christian has it all and it’s all church members and friends! If you are hiding a special talent, this is an opportunity to share it!
